The spectacular downtown Yarra River setting, located beside the Rod Laver Australian Open Tennis Arena on the Southbank, is expected to attract record numbers of spectators which at times have exceeded 200,000 in past years. This will be a very special occasion for the sports of Waterskiing and Wakeboarding.
Over the 50 years of entertaining the fans, it is estimated that 750 million international viewers and over 50 million Australians have tuned in to this unique event.
The Golden Anniversary Championships this year will feature the best male and female tournament Waterskiers from 18 countries around the world plus the latest Nautique boats. Included will be all the current defending Moomba Masters Champions, five current season World Cup Champions, four World Record Holders and three World Tournament Champions. It will also include international Wakeboard stars competing against Australia’s best, plus some of the worlds top Barefoot Waterskiers, both male and female. This will add a new dimension to the Moomba Masters with an exciting competition to become the 50th Anniversary Moomba Barefoot Champions.
The 50th Moomba Masters will be a non-stop action event and during the Yarra River course change breaks, Australia’s best and fastest model boats will entertain with high speed racing on site.
As ever, the spectacular floodlit Night Waterski Jump Competition, plus the star studded Moomba Waterski Show each evening, will be followed by the Moomba Fireworks display to illuminate the entire downtown Melbourne skyline.
To ensure that the 50th Moomba Masters is truly one to remember, this will be the largest presentation of the sport to date with Tournament Waterskiing, Wakeboard, Barefoot, Junior Moomba, Night Jump, plus a special attempt to set a new Disabled Waterski World Jump Record on the six foot Jump Ramp.
The Royal Australian Navy are scheduled to carry out helicopter sea rescue operations during the Masters.
